“I loved this course. The content was thorough, useful, practical and with multiple excellent photos to clarify. It was well organized, well presented and presented by Steven Biggs who has an unbridled enthusiasm and positive energy on all things FIGS. There was lots of opportunity to ask questions at any moment in the course. Today, the day after the course, I have unpacked my two figs, buried under the snow, and, finding them alive and well, have brought them into our lean-to greenhouse for an early growing season (March 20) with 4 cm of snow expected otherwise outside today. The course offers a huge amount of great growing advice and then offers even more in terms of online references, watering techniques and further fig related internet sites. A friend of my wife's told her yesterday that you could never get a fig to grow to ripeness in Ottawa. I have every intention to prove her wrong and to add to my little fig collection when the temperature allows. Wonderful course. Cannot recommend it highly enough if you are even thinking of growing figs. Even if you are not, I'll bet you change your mind and are hooked! Did I say that I loved this course? Go for it. Thank you Steven”

“It's often said that there are more ways than one to do something. In this 2-day "camp" Donna and Steve continually gave us multiple ways to look at issues in the garden, meet a challenge and/or accomplish a goal. Their professional training as well as their vast hands-on experience means that the courses they offer are full of credible, science-based information as well as practical and creative ideas. If you like to learn in an enjoyable way, be inspired to try new ideas, and feel like you're being guided by your most loyal and favourite friends, I'd highly recommend this and other offerings by these wonderful people!”

“I really enjoyed the 2 night sessions and learned a ton. Both instructors were so knowledgeable and engaging and worked well together. I have neighbours and friends who have lemon trees and no one seems to get fruit so I didn't want to go into this blindly and go down the same path. I have to admit that as a parent, June is a very busy month with graduation planning, concerts, awards night...all post Covid...so I could only listen and take good mental notes and I appreciated this being an option Looking forward to following up in coming months with questions...as I believe this is possible in the online community. I was given a Meyer Lemon plant from a friend and I purchased a Lisbon one. Exciting times ahead! - Linda (Victoria, BC)”

“This course gave so many ideas on what is possible to grow in containers. Steve made container gardening look easy. He showed us how to make and water containers with materials we already have lying around the house. What I've always loved about Steve's classes is he gives a lot of examples. We are shown many ways we can grow things to suit our lifestyles and skillsets. I find it very inspiring. I can't wait for the snow to melt so I can place a bunch of self-watering pots (and a straw bale or two) on my driveway. ”

“The Camp was so well done and so useful! Emma is articulate, engaging, bright and very knowledgeable, while being down to earth and clear about when she is not familiar with a topic- NO BS! It was so enlightening to learn about how tomato varieties can be grouped according to particular properties and qualities, with good advice re: how to choose varieties appropriate to your gardening situation. Can hardly wait to order seeds and to participate in the Tomato Growing course.”

Questions about our online gardening courses?

I’m Steven Biggs, the host of these events. I'm a horticulturist, college instructor, and an award-winning broadcaster and author.

My articles have appeared in Fine Gardening, Garden Making, Country Guide, and other magazines. As well as a horticulturist, I’m an avid home gardener—and I LOVE food. I’ve been teaching people to successfully grow food for the past two decades.

There’s no big production company behind my courses. It’s me, and sometimes my horticultural colleagues join me in teaching.

We all love food gardening—and we aim to make the world a better place, one food garden at a time. Gardens are a powerful way to nourish family, friendships, community, and a healthy lifestyle.

That’s why I run these fun, plain-English talks and events that help people have fun and be creative and successful with gardens and food.

Once you enrol in the camp, you receive the link to the Zoome meetings.

  • What if I have questions?

    Prices are in CAD.

  • What if this isn't for me?

    There’s no risk.

If you feel a masterclass isn’t for you, we’ll give you a full refund within 30 days of purchasing it. No questions asked.

If you decide a live camp isn't for you after you attend the first gathering, we'll give you your money back. No questions asked.

  • Who is this not for?

If you prefer staid classes, this isn't for you. And if you don't like Canadian accents, this definitely isn't for you.
