Lemon Tree Look Crappy?

It's common in cold climates

Lemon trees drop lots of leaves...

Potted lemon trees stall.

Or maybe you’re just not getting as many lemons as you hoped for!

How to Get Lemons (even in cold climates!)

Every garden is different. So there's no one-size-fits-all solution. But there's a way to grow lemons that fits your situation.

That solution starts with these 3 things:

  • Moderate the Winter Temperatures

You don't need a greenhouse to grow lemons in cold climates! But you do need to protect them from extreme cold.

  • Get the Watering Right

Lemon trees are easy to grow…but they don’t do well if the soil is too wet. Wet soil rots the roots.

  • Make Seasonal Change Less Stressful

Sudden changes in humidity and temperature stress the tree…and then it drops a ton of leaves. But we can make the change gradual so it's less stressful.

Hey there!

I'm Steven Biggs

I'm a cold-climate citrus expert, horticulturist, and former horticulture instructor with Durham and George Brown Colleges in Canada.

I wrote the award-winning book Grow Lemons Where You Think You Can’t. I get to chat with lots of citrus enthusiasts through my work as a horticultural journalist and host of the award-winning Food Garden Life Show, so I have lots of great ideas to share.

My fascination with citrus started in 1993, when I worked at the nursery with the UK National Collection of citrus. I still have a plant from that summer…a family heirloom!

I’d love it if you join me to geek out on cold-climate lemon growing!

Hey there!

I'm Donna Balzer

I'm a cold-climate citrus expert, horticulturist, award-winning TV host, and former horticulture instructor with Olds College in Canada.

My passion is growing and cooking food and teaching others to do the same. I can’t wait to tell you about the greenhouse full of citrus I had in the Pacific Northwest…and my current citrus-growing tactics in frosty Calgary.

Steve and I love working together to help people grow citrus. I’d love it if you join us to dig into cold-climate citrus success!

What Our Students Say

“Your webinars are super! Thank you for the lemon inspiration.”

“Excellent program! Thanks for putting on this program. I learned lots and got inspired to try more plants. ”

“I really enjoyed the sessions and learned a ton. Both instructors were so knowledgeable and engaging. I have neighbours and friends who have lemon trees and no one seems to get fruit. So I didn't want to go into this blindly and go down the same path. Exciting times ahead!”
