The Recorded Masterclass

Explore ways to combine vegetables, fruit, herbs, and ornamentals in a garden that’s productive and enjoyable. Learn to assess your growing space, find overlooked opportunities, and choose plants and approaches that fit your conditions.

Work through the recorded lessons at your own pace, use the accompanying resources, and return to ideas as your garden evolves.

Make More of the Garden You Have

An edible garden can be productive, beautiful, and a pleasure to spend time in.

Maybe you're starting from scratch. Or perhaps you have an established garden, but you know there's room to make it work better.

Where do you put the vegetables? How can fruit fit into the landscape? What about paths, sunlight, and making the most of smaller spaces?

Edible Garden Makeover helps you see the possibilities, make practical choices, and create a garden that fits your life.

With the Live Edition, you'll get the complete recorded Masterclass, plus two opportunities to learn with me live and ask questions about your own garden.

Join Me Live in November

Along with the complete recorded Masterclass, we'll get together for two live online presentations, with plenty of time for questions.

Each live gathering takes place on Zoom and lasts approximately two hours.

Tuesday, November 10: Rethink Your Garden Space

Take a fresh look at your garden. We'll explore sunlight, layout, paths, growing areas, and overlooked spaces, along with ways to make your garden more productive and enjoyable.

Tuesday, November 17: Bring Your Edible Garden Plan Together

We'll look at plant choices, combining food plants with ornamentals, making the most of your growing space, and turning ideas into a practical plan.

Both gatherings begin at 7:30 p.m. Eastern.

There's no homework, and you don't need to watch the entire Masterclass beforehand. Can't join us live? Both presentations will be recorded, with ongoing access and no set expiry date.

What Gardeners Are Saying

“The course motivated me to form a plan, not a perfect one, but one that was realistic. Got me to jump-start this season's planting, while allowing me to imagine how my garden can continue to evolve. Encouraged me to dream of possible locations (rooftops, straw bales) and unfamiliar plants (haskap, Cornelian cherry) to grow. Emboldened me to test the limits of my growing conditions! The course encouraged me to seek unfamiliar edible plants, techniques, and tools while enabling me to let go of perfectionistic tendencies. ”

“I found the course extremely inspirational. It is for both new and well-seasoned gardeners. You gave us a lot of unique ideas of things we could easily do in our gardens, whether they were in sun or shade and big or small. You showed us how beautiful our gardens can be by incorporating both unique and common edibles to our gardens. Many of these ideas, were ones I had never seen before. This course will be something I'll refer back to years to come. I was inspired by the edible hedge you showed and I installed one based on your recommendation. ”

“Steve wanted us to think outside the box to utilize every inch of our property to grow vegetable plants or flowers. He wanted us to use the backyard, front yard, south-facing part of our property, any areas where there was a micro-climate (take the class and you’ll find out what that means), and yes, even the roof of our house. I’ve been an amateur gardener for 30-plus years and I can honestly say I learned so much from Steve’s Edible Garden Makeover Course. Thanks, Steve, for sharing your knowledge and helping me think outside the box!”

Meet Your Instructor

Meet Steven Biggs

I'm a Toronto-based food gardener, author, and educator who loves helping people grow food in unexpected places.

Over the years, I've transformed my own city garden into a collection of growing spaces, from a patio potager and former front lawn to a driveway vegetable garden and a patch devoted to figs.

I've written books about growing figs, lemons, and olives in cold climates, and I host the Food Garden Life podcast, where I explore practical ideas and meet interesting people doing interesting things with food.

My approach to edible gardening is simple: understand what plants need, understand what your space offers, and find ways to bring the two together.

I'm looking forward to helping you see new possibilities in your own garden.
