Live online on Zoom

Thursdays, October 15 and 22, 2026
7:30–9:30 p.m. Eastern Time

Two live sessions • Questions and discussion • Recordings included • C$70

Join horticulturist and author Steven Biggs for two evenings of practical fig-growing advice, with time to ask questions about your own trees and growing conditions.

Can’t attend both evenings? Both sessions are recorded.

You’ll have a full year after camp to watch the recordings.

A Fig Tree Is One Thing. Ripe Figs Are Another.

Maybe your tree grows beautifully but the figs don’t ripen before frost. Maybe you’re wondering where to put it for winter. Or perhaps you haven’t bought a tree yet because you’re not sure you have the right space.

Fig Camp helps you sort out your options.

Every garden is different. So is every gardener. We’ll explore ways to grow, overwinter, and ripen figs, so you can choose an approach that fits your climate, your space, and the amount of work you want to take on.

Bring your questions. Leave with a clearer plan for your own fig trees.

“I loved this course. The content was thorough, useful, practical and with multiple excellent photos to clarify. It was well organized, well presented, and was presented by Steven Biggs who has an unbridled enthusiasm and positive energy on all things FIGS. There was lots of opportunity to ask questions at any moment in the course. Today, the day after the course, I have unpacked my two figs, buried under the snow, and, finding them alive and well, have brought them into our lean-to greenhouse for an early growing season (March 20) with 4 cm of snow expected otherwise outside today. The course offers a huge amount of great growing advice and then offers even more in terms of online references, watering techniques and further fig related internet sites. A friend of my wife's told her yesterday that you could never get a fig to grow to ripeness in Ottawa. I have every intention to prove her wrong and to add to my little fig collection when the temperature allows. Wonderful course. Cannot recommend it highly enough if you are even thinking of growing figs. Even if you are not, I'll bet you change your mind and are hooked! Did I say that I loved this course? Go for it. Thank you Steven”

Steven Biggs

Your Camp Counsellor

I grow figs in Toronto, where winter gives us plenty to work around.

Over the years, I’ve tried different ways to grow and overwinter fig trees—and collected more trees than any reasonable person needs.

I’m a horticulturist, educator, and author of Grow Figs Where You Think You Can’t. I also host the Fig Culture podcast, sharing conversations and ideas from other fig growers.

In Fig Camp, I bring together practical growing advice, examples from my own garden, and approaches used by other cold-climate growers. My aim is to help you understand your options and choose what fits your garden.

FAQ

  • When is Fig Camp?

We meet on Thursday, October 15, and Thursday, October 22, 2026, from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. Eastern Time. Each session is two hours.

  • What if I can’t attend live?

Both sessions are recorded, so you can catch up afterwards or revisit something you want to hear again. You’ll have at least a full year after camp to watch the recordings.

  • How does online camp work?

We meet on Zoom for a mix of teaching, photos and examples, questions, and discussion. You’re welcome to join the conversation or leave your camera off and listen.

  • How do I get the Zoom link?

You’ll find the Zoom link in your online course area after registering. I’ll also email it before we meet.

  • Can I ask about my own fig tree?

Yes. There’s time for questions and discussion about your own trees, growing conditions, and winter-storage options. That’s a big part of camp.

  • I’m new to figs. Is this for me?

Yes. We start with the basics and connect them to the choices you’ll make when growing figs. You don’t need to own a fig tree yet.

  • I already grow figs. Will this help me?

If you’re struggling to ripen fruit, manage a growing tree, or find a winter routine that works, camp will help you explore your options. We go beyond the basics, with examples of different growing and overwintering methods.

  • Will we cover lots of fig varieties?

We’ll discuss some useful varieties and what to look for when choosing a tree. The main focus is growing and harvesting figs in cold climates, rather than comparing a long list of cultivars.

  • What currency is the price in?

Canadian dollars. C$70 covers both live sessions and access to the recordings.

  • What if camp isn’t for me?

If you attend the first gathering and decide camp isn’t for you, I’ll refund your registration. No questions asked.
